Our History
More than just Books.
Behind the glory of TBS and Poorna Publications, there is an extraordinary journey of a man who dedicated his life to books. Our history is closely tied to the life of our founder, Late. Mr. N. E. Balakrishna Marar and his relentless passion for selling books.
The story of TBS starts with just two bags of books, when Mr. N. E. Balakrishna Marar started to sell books on foot in 1951. Saving enough money to buy a bicycle, he established the TOURING BOOK STALL, a mobile bookstore, and peddled throughout Calicut to sell books, until in 1957, when he moved it to a small shop and named it as ‘TOURING BOOK STALL’.
In 1966, TBS stepped into the path of publishing as ‘POORNA PUBLICATIONS’. Over 7000 books, including the works of nearly every renowned Malayalam writer, were published by Poorna. Many of the books we published, received major awards and were prescribed as textbooks at Universities across the country.
More than just books, TBS is a builder of reliable and quality driven publishing excellence across South India. Still expanding its wings all over the country and outside, we strive to spread our magic to the readers of every corner.
